Gonzales, Texas in the Confederate Army Company F. Willis Bat.Calvary, Wauls Texas Legion, and saw action as a Calvaryman inMississippi, Tennessee, and Alabama. he was paroled at Jackson.Mississippi on May 13, 1865, having served honorably, and waslater granted pension #12460 from the State of Texas.
Came to West Texas from Gonzales County in 1872, where heestablished the Birch Creek Ranch between Christoval andKnickerbocker. They were accompanied to West Texas by theMurrays.
Some time later moved to Ben Ficklin, where Bit built a twostory hotel with lumber freighted in from Austin by Ox team.Ben Ficklin, the county seat, was later destroyed by flood in1882.
with Ben Ficklin destroyed, Bit was given property in SanAngelo on 4th street by his friend Jonathan Miles. A house wasbuilt, and the Martins lived there for a time. The Martinsreturned to the Birch Creek Ranch by May 1884, while the Murrayfamily continued to live on 4th street. where they later died.
In August 1884, the Martins moved to Sherwood, where he builtthe first house there to have a double fireplace. This twostoried triple gabled house was still standing as of 1986, butby 2002 has basically collapsed. Sherwood was the only townbetween San Angelo and Ft. Stockton at that time.

Parish. After Bertha died in 1915 married 2nd to Frances(Fanny) Swindle June 26, 1916 in Plain Dealing, La. At somepoint (about 1914 ) T.M. II bought Bear point Plantation(originally owned by Fourney F. Gatlin) and moved there fromFairview Plantation.

He lived at Bear Point Plantation in Bossier Parish all of hismarried life.
He was a trustee of Ward One (colored schools) at Bear Point- aslisted on the School Board minutes of Bossier Parish July 9,1908

Loved Ford Automobiles--last had a 1949 Ford V8

her Tombstone in the Keatchie Cemetary. This is incorrect-TheT.H. Gatlin Family Bible gives her DOB as Aug 4, 1855, and this1855 date is consistent with the 1880 census, which givesAnnie's age as 24 at census time. The Bible date is consideredCorrect, as it is believed the date entered in the Bible waswritten by Annie herself.

Her husband T.H. and Annie were living with his mother Martha atthe time of the census -1880 Desoto Parish, La. ward #1, page26. They were married by Annie's father, who was also a medicaldoctor in addition to being a minister.
